Car Port Fitting Instructions

Car Port

  • Check where the canopy is to be positioned. Normal height is 2135mm from the ground to the underside of the beam. Check that the rear door of hatchback and estate cars will clear the beams. Work out the beam centres at 1600mm to avoid pipes etc.

  • Unpack beams. Using a 16mm wood drill bit drill a hole in the broadest end of each of the beams approximately 60mm from the top and 30mm in from the outside edge (see diagram above). You can drill the lower hole now or wait to see if it needs to be in a different position to line up with the bricks.

  • Take the first beam and mark through the top hole onto the brickwork where it is to be fitted. Ensure the hole is in the centre of a brick and not a mortar joint.
  • Drill a hole with 16mm masonry bit through the brick, into the cavity.

  • Place a bolt in the beam and insert into the hole you have drilled in the wall. Make sure the head of the bolt is nipped up.

  • Hammer the bolt home. Preferably using a Nylon-headed hammer or a block of wood with a steel hammer to avoid damage to the bolt head. Tighten the bolt securely, but not fully.

  • Check that the beam is vertically aligned and mark the bottom hole position.

  • Twist the beam aside and drill into the brickwork, again ensuring that it is not in a mortar joint. Install second bolt and tighten securely, but not fully.

  • Level and fit one aluminium purlin as a wallplate. This gives a line to the position of the next beam. Fix all beams and purlins using this method. Fix all other aluminium purlins to form roofing sheet supports at approximately 610mm centres from the wallplates.

  • Before the fascia is fitted, level all the beams with one another using packing as required. Re-tighten the bolts.

  • Cut the fascia (not supplied) to length. Notch it to suit the end beam fascia platform and fit.

  • Lift on the first roofsheet to the wallplate and then up to the endbeam. Lift on the second roofsheet, centralise and overlap onto the first roofsheet. Before screwing the roofsheet to the wallplate, through the first sheet and into the beam, again check the squareness of the sheets to the fascia. Silicone seal the roofsheets and endbeam/roofsheet joints.

  • Flashband seal the roofsheet/wall joint. Wipe down the Concept Canopy. Installation is now complete.

  • Rainwater goods may now be installed if required.
